Piercings...they're not for you

Hmmm ... what's a good start for this? Probably the beginning so we'll start there.  I got my first body piercing at 18, decided on a navel. Probably not ideal because having a kid really stretched that out. Definitely something I would recommend considering before getting that done.  Since then I've done 2 in each nostril, septum, bridge, 4 in lobe, both tragii (look it up), cartilage in 1 ear, labret, upper lip and industrial. The labret and industrial have been retired for a while, but this has been an 11 yr project, and there's still more I want done. Emphasis on "I" want, because I do them for me, not you or your approval. Don't like 'em, don't get 'em. That simple. You don't have a valid opinion to lend to that part of my aesthetic if you're not my piercer.  Hang on, I'm about to get to the provocative parts.    Piercing (and tattooing) is personal, it should be for you only. Feminist...sure but equity only

Feminism seems popular today. Let's go with that.  Equity feminism, the only reasonable form to my mind, but what does that mean? Equity is the quality of being fair and impartial. Feminism as it's used today claims to be, but it's not. We constantly see men being marked as having something inherently wrong with them (toxic masculinity), women as being somehow oppressed (especially here in the USA..somehow), gender pay gap (it's not what you think) and victimhood.  So, to the first point: TOXIC MASCULINITY -insert ominous music here-  We're told that men are the problem, we need to be afraid and cautious, and every man is potential predator just waiting for his chance to rape you in the parking garage. So carry your keys like weapons, ladies, get your mace and charge your stun guns. But is this really the situation at hand, or are we just fear-mongering and propagating the worst case scenario?  How can a society expect its young men to grow up well adjusted ...

Body modification...to regulate or not to regulate

 Today on my facebook feed this popped up locally (link at the bottom). The subject is the lack of regulation of body modification businesses.  Personally, I think regulations are a double-edged sword where mods are concerned.  Obviously anyone get any kind of modification wants to be sure that the environment is sanitary and the person doing it is competent, but here's the problem, this bill applies to tattoo and piercing parlours, not cess pools like Claire's or any place that uses a gun (guns are topic for another time).  Most people looking for a mod -whether basic or "extreme"- research an artist before going there. With any specialty business you should be checking reviews, message boards, forums etc. If someone has terrible reviews, a history of being dirty, handing out infections like condoms at Warped Tour, and just generally shoddy practises and quality, the average person will stear clear.  My piercer makes me sign a barcode when I get pierced, a...

Starting again

Starting this again...again... Haven't had much in my head that seemed blog worthy in quite some time. Currently I find myself between jobs and with too much time on my hands.  So here we are, we'll get the boring things out of the way first. I'm married, have a child, 1 cat, 2 frogs and 2 fish. The end. Like I said, boring. And off we go, first post will be on body modification...enjoy and looking forward to your readership.
